Pricing your work as a senior studio

A short note on charging like the senior studio you are, even when (especially when) it costs you the project.

Senior studios price for the asymmetry of impact. Junior studios price for hours. The middle is the worst place to live: too expensive to be a vendor, too cheap to be a partner.

Two things keep us out of the middle. First, we publish a price list — not because clients use it, but because the act of publishing forces a posture. Second, we say no faster than we say yes. Saying no within forty-eight hours is one of the highest-leverage things a senior studio can do.

If a project would be a stretch financially but a stretch creatively too, it's a yes. If it's a stretch financially and a vanilla execution, it's a no, every time.

You are not your hours. Price like it.
